Abstract

With the emergence of e-commerce, the business model of big cities in Indonesia has changed drastically. This has had a negative impact on conventional market traders. According to the perspective of Islamic economics, trade should be based on the principles of justice, balance, and protection for small business actors. However, the rise of e-commerce has resulted in a decrease in the number of visitors to traditional markets, a decrease in the income of small traders, unequal competition, and unequal access to technology. In addition, social interactions that commonly occur in traditional markets have also decreased, threatening the sustainability of the local economy. According to this analysis, these negative impacts are contrary to the principles of Islamic economics, which place high importance on social cohesion, equality, and economic sustainability. Strategic steps including creating a sharia-based e-commerce platform, empowering traders through digital literacy, and promoting fair economic policies are needed to address this issue. In line with the principles of Islamic economics, this strategy is expected to achieve a balance between true market sustainability and commercial modernity.
